SIPI 2008 NISOD Excellence Awards recognize the following faculty members:
Chris Harrington, Business Department
I wanted to make a difference in the life of Natives. Not only my own tribe-the Comanches, but all Natives. After 10 years practicing Indian Law as an attorney, I thought the best way to make a difference was teaching. The next generation holds the key to preserving tribal sovereignty and I hope I can help in that preservation.
Sue Parton, Adult & Development Education Department
Being the daughter of a music teacher and a Native storyteller, I was destined to teach as they did. My basic math students motivate me the most, especially those who believe that Native peoples survival today, comes through education. My teaching methods are varied, adapting to new students every trimester.
B. Dean Pershall, Advanced Technical Education Department
Teaching enables me to give the benefit of my personal experiences to Native American students. My student experiences guide my teaching approach. My own personal excitement and humor about a subject and relating my prior industrial experiences captures students attention and illustrates course material application.
